Rewrite/revise of CBNCP Package

Based on the original unevaluated pilot design, the Government of Nepal scaled up CB-NCP in 39 districts. In 2011, An Assessment Reference Group (ARG) was formed to evaluate the program. The committee’s evaluation report highlighted on the important components of the CB-NCP that needed reconsideration and revision. Based on this assessment, other available evidences, and the changing context of the MNCH program, it was agreed that certain changes and modification in the program would certainly make the package more effective in addressing the newborn survival.

In this context, Core committee and a Technical Working Group (TWG) was formed under the chair of Chief of IMCI to review and revise the CB-NCP package in September 2013. A series of workshops were organized in Godavari and Nagarkot to review and revise the package, under the leadership of Child Health Division (CHD) in close collaboration with Family Health Division (FHD) and with support from various partners. On their recommendation, some modules were revised like use of cholorohexadine added in essential newborn care section (module 2), Use of bag and mask at the community level has been removed from the package (module 3), logistics, reporting and recording as per present scenario, roles and responsibilities of health work force, duration of training etc.
