I am a Child Not a Bride-II
“I Am a Child, Not a Bride” is a vital campaign dedicated to eradicating child marriage in Parsa district. After the successful completion of Phase I in Parsagadhi Municipality, where we achieved positive outcomes in two schools, we observed significant changes. Parents expressed their support and appreciation, as their daughters became more vocal about crucial topics like health, hygiene, and their right to choose when to marry.
Building upon the success of Phase I, we have now embarked on Phase II, which involves expanding our project to 11 additional community schools. Our ultimate goal is to encompass the entire district, recognizing the importance of addressing the issue of child marriage, especially in Madhesh Pradesh, which has the second-highest prevalence of child marriages in Nepal.
“I Am a Child, Not a Bride – Second Phase” is a continuation of the successful project aimed at addressing the critical issue of child marriage in the Parsagadhi Municipality of Nepal’s Madhesh Province. Despite resource constraints, the project has been developed to build upon previous achievements and tackle the persisting problem of child marriage. With Nepal’s commitment to ending child marriage by 2030 and its second-highest rate in South Asia, this initiative is timely and vital. It aims to enhance access to sexual and reproductive health services, empower adolescent girls with knowledge and skills, engage community stakeholders, and elevate the status of adolescent girls in society. Using a 3-E approach (Educate, Empower, Elevate), the project intends to establish Vision Child Clubs, organize health education workshops, provide life skills training, promote sports and physical activities, and engage community leaders and policymakers. The expected outcomes include improved health outcomes, increased knowledge and awareness, enhanced agency, and sustained community engagement, with a focus on long-term sustainability through institutionalization, advocacy, peer-to-peer education, and community ownership. This project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 4, 5, and 10, contributing to the well-being, education, gender equality, and reduced inequalities for adolescent girls in the region.
